Did You Know?
The Most Important Link in Our Government Is You.
Wilbraham's future isn't decided by politicians alone. It's shaped by the residents who choose to show up, speak up, and vote.
Massachusetts is a Home Rule state, where residents play a direct role in shaping their communities. Town Meeting voters approve the annual budget, decide major expenditures, and can even bring forward new by-laws and citizen petitions for consideration.
Yet participation is often surprisingly low. Important decisions are frequently made by a small percentage of eligible voters.
In the 2026 Annual Town Election, decision-making roles were determined by remarkably small margins. For example, a Select Board seat was decided by 112 votes, while a Planning Board seat was decided by just 26 votes. At the 2026 Annual Town Meeting, approximately 2.7% of registered voters participated..
That means fewer than 3 out of every 100 registered voters were present to help shape decisions that affect the entire town—from property taxes and school funding to town services, community investments, and other important local priorities.
And don’t let the process intimidate you. You don’t need to be an expert, study Robert’s Rules, or spend hours researching to attend. Simply showing up, listening, learning, and asking questions is an important form of participation.
Whether you choose to attend a meeting, volunteer for a committee, learn about local government, or simply vote, your participation matters.
Because the most important part of Wilbraham government isn't a committee, a building, or elected official.
It's Your Voice.
